Named a garden of significance, these gardens are a 13 hectare treasure trove of trees, shrubs and flowers set out in Victorian inspired “rooms” linked together by beautiful walkways. The gardens are a lovely place to take the family or join friends for a picnic, a bit of leisure, recreation and relaxation.
Canopies of mature trees create a variety of intimate spaces filled with themed plantings and linked by pathways that meander around streams and ponds providing a tranquil experience for visitors.
The Gardens are open seven days per week and entry is free. Oamaru Public Gardens gardens are smoke-free. Dogs on leashes are welcome.

Entrances on Severn, Isis and Chelmer Sts with most parking available at Chelmer St entrance.
In 2021, the Oamaru Public Gardens have received a 5 star ‘Garden of National Significance’ rating.
